Unemployment rate back at pre-lockdown levels
The unemployment rate fell to its pre-lockdown level of 8.5% in the week ended June 21, led by big gains in the rural areas, economic think tank CMIE said. The rate had gone up from 8.75% in March to 23.5% in April and May. It had peaked at 27.1% in the week ended May 3. The CMIE survey showed the gains in rural areas may even be bigger in the months ahead.

India's Covid tally now 4,25,282, death toll 13,699
The country registered over 10,000 cases for the 11th day in a row. The number of recoveries also continued to surge with 2,37,195 patients cured so far, while there were 1,74,387 active cases, according to the updated official figures at 8 am. Of the 445 fresh fatalities reported till Monday morning, 186 were from Maharashtra, 63 from Delhi, 53 from Tamil Nadu, 43 from Uttar Pradesh and 25 from Gujarat.

Sushant's sister pays tribute to late star

Mumbai: Covid cases doubling in 29 days
The doubling time for Covid-19 cases in Mumbai, India's worst hot spot, is now 29 days. It puts Mumbai in a safe zone of sorts, said state Covid task force member Dr Shashank Joshi. “We have either bent the curve or are on the verge of it..if this trend continues for a month, we will be able to handle Covid-19 very easily,” said Joshi. On May 31, the doubling rate was 13 days.
