Election Commission may further ease curbs today
the Election Commission is planning further relaxations of its curbs on physical campaigning, including allowing rallies with better attendance, ahead of the start of polling on February 10. The options being considered by the EC, according to sources, include doing away with the existing cap of 1,000 participants and instead allowing people up to a certain percentage of the capacity of the open ground on which physical rally is to be held.

Govt orders 5 crore Corbevax doses, expected to arrive by end of January
The government has placed a purchase order with Biological E for five crore doses of its Covid vaccine Corbevax, which are expected to arrive by the end of February and boost the availability of jabs under its corona-immunisation programme. The government may also use the vaccine to expand its vaccination drive to cover adolescents below 15 years since most states are reopening schools, sources have said.

10% who died of Omicron were vaccinated: Study
Only 10% deaths were recorded among fully vaccinated people who were hospitalised with Omicron infection, compared with nearly 22% fatalities among the unvaccinated or partially-vaccinated, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) director general Balram Bhargava said on Thursday, citing a study based on data from the national clinical registry of Covid-19, to stress that increase in vaccination has significantly helped reduce deaths during the present surge.
