The Centre on Wednesday told the Delhi high court that a citizen’s fundamental rights must be respected. Parl panel: Govt far from goal of doubling farmers’ income
parliamentary panel on agriculture in its report, tabled in Parliament on Thursday, noted that the government is far from its 2022 goal of doubling the income of farmers which the Centre had announced six years ago. India saw a sharp 19% rise in tuberculosis cases in 2021 over the previous year, even as 64% of the surveyed symptomatic population did not seek healthcare services between 2019 and 2021, the India TB report 2022 and National TB Prevalence Survey shows. China airliner crashes with 132 on board; no sign of survivors
A China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737-800 with 132 people on board crashed in mountains in southern China on a domestic flight on Monday after a sudden descent from cruising altitude. The total 'proceeds of crime' generated through the scam has been to the tune of Rs 1,352 crore, according to the agency.

India records lowest daily Covid cases since May 2020
The number of fresh Covid-19 cases has dropped to 2,503 on Sunday, the lowest since May 2020, while active cases dipped to 36,168, the lowest in 675 days, according to health ministry data. With 27 Covid fatalities recorded on Sunday, the total death toll has now climbed to 5.15 lakh.

EPF rate slashed to 8.1%, lowest in over 4 decades
The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on Saturday proposed to lower the interest rate on retirement savings for its 6.4 crore subscribers from 8.5% to 8.1%, the lowest since 1977-78. The payout, which will have to be confirmed by the finance ministry, is in line with the agency’s earnings and will leave it with a surplus of Rs 450 crore during the financial year.

Senior citizens may not need 10k steps a day, 6k-8k enough
The 10,000-steps-a-day health mantra may not be accurate, and people may need fewer steps to live healthier for longer, according to a new study published in ‘The Lancet’.
