There won't be single job loss due to merger: FM

Sitharaman on Friday unveiled a mega plan to merge 10 public sector banks into four as part of plans to create fewer and stronger global-sized lenders as the government looked to boost economic growth from a five-year low.

New governors appointed in 5 states

BJP leader and former Uttarakhand chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari, 77, has been appointed the governor of Maharashtra, while BJP's Tamil Nadu chief Tamilisai Soundararajan, 58, moves to the Raj Bhavan in Telangana, according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique. Former Union minister Kalraj Mishra, who was recently appointed the governor of Himachal Pradesh, has been shifted to Rajasthan.

Up to Rs 5k fine: Steep penalty for traffic rule violators from today

From Sunday, the traffic police can book you and fine you up to Rs 5,000 if you are caught jumping a traffic light, using a mobile phone while driving, overtaking wrongly and driving against the flow of traffic. You could also end up in jail. Penalties for drunk driving, not wearing a helmet or using the seatbelt have also been increased.
