EC rally curbs, raises cap for outdoor meetings

5 new tiger reserves likely in India this year
Five more sites are expected to be formally declared tiger reserves by 2022-end, taking the total number to 56. The Centre has given approval of granting the status to three new sites and agreed in-principle to give its nod to two more. The three sites which got approval are MM Hills in Karnataka, Guru Ghasidas National Park in Chhattisgarh and Ramgarh Vishdhari in Rajasthan. The two which got in-principle nod are Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal and Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary in Bihar.

2.5k farm suicides in 11 months of 2021 in Maha: RTI reply
Distress among farmers in the state pushed 2,498 of them to end their lives in the 11-month period from January to November 2021. In 2020, 2,547 debt-ridden farmers had committed suicide. Data from the state revenue department shows that despite loan waiver schemes of the government, farmers continue to commit suicide for inability to repay loans. Region-wise Aurangabad saw 804 suicides in the 11-month period in 2021 and Nagpur division reported 309 cases.

In a first, potential climate change hotspots mapped
The India State of Forest Report (ISFR) has for the first time mapped climate change hotspots in the country in three future time period scenarios of 2030, 2050 and 2085. Domestic airtraffic drops 37% since January 1

December GST revenues stay over Rs 1 lakh crore
The revenues for December are 13% higher than the same month last year and 26% higher than the GST revenues in December 2019, according to data released by the finance ministry. The gross GST revenue collected in December totalled Rs 1,29,780 crore of which CGST is Rs 22,578 crore.
