The government has decided to grant special remission to certain categories of prisoners as part of celebrations of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence. Jailed convicts who fulfil the conditions for release under the scheme will be set free on three dates — August 15, 2022; January 26, 2023; and August 15, 2023, the home ministry apprised all states and Union territories in a communication dated June 10.

No pre-departure Covid test for US entry now
International travellers to the US will no longer need a pre-departure Covid-19 test but only proof of being full vaccinated, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said in a statement. This will be effective from Sunday (June 12) at 12.01 EDT (9.31 pm IST). The requirement of showing proof of Covid vaccination for non-citizens who are nonimmigrants is still in effect, said CDC. It has recommended Covid vaccines, including boosters, for everyone aged five years and above.

India has achieved 10% ethanol blending of petrol five months ahead of schedule, PM Narendra Modi said on Sunday.
